How To Write An Essay For 4th Graders: List Of Tips

Fourth grade is an exciting time of your life. No longer viewed as a baby, you are beginning to find your way in the world and with that comes new responsibilities. Essay writing being just one of the many things that you will be expected to conquer. However, when you are still just feeling your way through the English language, having to write something as structured as an academic assignment can seem like an impossible task. Don’t worry though, because here is my list of tips for writing a piece like this for 4th graders:

Follow the structure

No-one is going to expect miracles from you at this stage. All your teacher wants you to is demonstrate that you are able to follow a clear formula. The whole thing will more than likely be no more than five paragraphs in length and will comprise of a beginning, middle and end. Provided you remain true to this then you shouldn’t have too many difficulties. This will no doubt be the first of many essays so you will have time to refine your skills later down the line.

Don’t panic

The very mention of the word essay is often enough to send young people in to a panic attack. As I have already indicated you are only going to be expected to write a few paragraphs. Just take a deep breath and know that you can get through this.

Keep your language clear and simple

I know that it can be very difficult to articulate your thoughts and feelings and transfer them onto paper. However, by trying to keep your choice of words clear and simple you will make it easier for the reader to grasp what you are trying to communicate them.

Choose a topic that you enjoy

If possible try and choose a topic that you enjoy. In doing so you will be more motivated to plough on with it and finish it.

Make sure you have some quiet time

Whether you choose to write it from the comfort of your bedroom, or the dining table downstairs ensure that you have the time and the space to concentrate properly. Don’t make the mistake of trying to write it while watching the television or if there are a lot of distractions around you. You owe it to yourself to give this your very best shot.
